I know there must be ways to make money at home, and after trying several disasters, I definitely want to make this a permanent part of our blog. Not just to find good ideas, but to warn you of scams, or even “almost-scams”*.

*Almost Scams: This is a ‘online opportunity’ that is honest, with good intentions, and works for some of the people some of the time, but doesn’t work for most of the people most of the time. MLM’s are a prime example, as well as home party selling. The majority of these are honest companies with a reasonably needed product. However, here’s our 4 reasons for classifying them as ‘almost scams’:

  1. They usually take a hefty chunk of investment change. Actually, you end up spending way more than you usually would using the product, just because you sell it. Good marketing for these companies, but bad for your budget.
  2. They take quite a bit of prime time. I realize any money making venture will take an element of time, but these will rob you of prime time….namely, evenings. The hours from 6pm to 10pm are prime real estate for most moms (and grandmas) with everything from homeschool meetings, church meetings, children’s performances, celebrations, ect, competing for a place in your evenings.
  3. Hype, brainwashing, exclusive rights. Most of these ‘almost scams’ offer alot of hype in their sales motivating tactics, to the point of brainwashing you into thinking that their product is exclusively better than anything else in it’s class.
  4. Most require a certain personality type. If you are outgoing, thick-skinned, speak well in front of groups and are extremely persistant, you should try one of these ‘almost scams’, for you will probably do well. As for the rest of us who would rather give everything away and freeze in front of a group, move on.

There, enough about what we want to avoid. Well, actually, there will be alot more on home ventures you will want to avoid, but that’s all for today.
