Last August I came across Squidoo and spent alot of time reading and a little time writing. I originally explored Squidoo when I heard it was a great place to promote your website. So I wrote a lens (that’s what they call your creative page) about homeschooling an entrepreneur called “How to Teach Your Kids to Start and Run a Business – and Make It Part of Your Homeschool!” (short name, huh?) . I don’t think it’s driven much traffic to my site (homeschool-entrepreneur.com), but it’s been fun watching my stats, and what number I have achieved each week. I’ve also come across a number of excellent sites for personal and homeschooling use. Someday I want to write a post just on some of the Squidoo lens that are amazing sources of content!
The BEST use for Squidoo besides making money-which can be very slow in the coming-is as a educational writing tool for your child. Today I heard of a 10 year old and her dad that work together writing lens on Squidoo, with the 10 year old doing most of the work. She writes on things that interest her and makes a little money in the process. Sometimes she gives all her earnings to charity which is an option Squidoo gives, but the best part is she really enjoys doing it!
What a great way to start a little business for a child, with no start up capital they can’t lose! You will need an adult willing to oversee it all, especially to monetize it, but Squidoo’s set up is so easy ….obviously, even a child can do it!
More lens’ on Squidoo mean more income, so with every project, they earn more money. That’s good motivation for many kids to do their homework….well! They research their topic, write modules, find pictures, or create their own, and even communicate with other lens owners on Squidoo that are similar to theirs to promote their lens. It’s a fun way to develop creativity and many other skills and earn money, too! They will probably need a little help from you, but you may even enjoy it more than you expected.
