Found a site today that has lots of ways to make everyday math fun. I’m a big believer in making learning fun AND relevant, otherwise you know what happens…the ‘in one ear, out the other’ syndrome! All my kids loved math…ok, liked math…mainly because it was always my favorite subject, too. I always said that math is just a game-you just have to learn the rules.
One of my top recommendations for beginning math curriculum is Bob Jones Math workbooks. They are alive with fun illustrations, and incorporate constant review in each without all the extras BJU tries to sell you. The only downside to the workbooks is they are consumable and you really have to buy them new. If you are really super thrifty, I guess you could copy each page of the workbook, but depending on how much you pay for copies, it might not be worth it. The books retail for about $17 and I’ll search out the best price for you soon in another blog.
Anyway! Back to Googol! It’s a great site that offers lots of ways to make math fun, and makes it musical, too. Their products are pretty reasonably priced, and they even have contests that make it easy to win lots of their stuff for free. The best nugget on the site though, is the listing of the finalists and semi-finalists of previous contests. There are many winners, and each winner’s idea is listed in detail. You guessed it, that’s where you’ll find some of the best ideas for making math fun absolutely free. How ’bout that? You’ll also get a good idea of what ideas win and so you can submit your own winning entry! Let us know if you win!
