In an incredible blog post on Sparkplug CEO, I quote,

“If you have ever seen the presentation Shift Happens, then you, like me, likely lose sleep over the fact that our educational system really isn’t set up to teach our children real-life business and entrepreneurial skills.”

The video is there at the post, too, if you haven’t already seen it. The point is, how do we really prepare our children for real life…at the rate things are moving? (Especially when Nintendo spends over twice as much on their R & D as our govt spends on R & D on education in the US!)

OK, I’m certainly not going to offer the shallow solution of buying educational games! Learning facts and figures are no longer the base to a good education, and not even how to process those facts are what counts. It’s the shaping of character, and mindset. One of our sons went to a conference before he left for college that had a great effect on him, because it introduced him to a ‘Biblical Worldview’….how to look at any situation with a different perspective….. a biblical perspective.

That also can apply to the ‘Entrepreneurial Mindset’, teaching children to see events, trends, needs, and cultural shifts as entrepreneurial possibilities. Seeing problems as opportunities is a skill that can be taught, and can be one of the most valuable lessons learned.

The games in the list from this blogpost is just one way to help shape your child’s mind to think entrepreneurially. In fact, it can be far better. If they are having fun doing it, they are paying attention to all the details involved-breeding understanding, which can’t always be said in a conventional book-taught lesson!

Some of the games you may already have, some are almost free, some aren’t. Christmas isn’t that far away…………(sorry!)

Sparkplug’s 14 Educational Games Post

Real Arcade- has many ‘entrepreneurial’ games like Jane’s Hotel, Diner Dash, and Profitville. Some are more educational than others, but you can get a 30 day free trial, and you get one free game even if you cancel before the trial ends. It’s only $10/month, which includes a free game to keep each month, and you can quit any time. We did this for a few months and tried about 20 different games and came away with some we really liked.

Biblical Worldview Conferences – in case you want to look into it for your teen. It’s not cheap, but well worth the investment.
