How To Make Homemade Laundry Detergent

Living On a Dime is one of those websites you will want to bookmark, because they have loads of money saving ideas and recipes. This is where I found an excellent video on how to make your own laundry detergent. Less than 3 minutes long, it gives you clear directions for each step, while watching how it’s done. It’s helpful to me to see the size of the buckets she uses, because I’ve done things like this in the past with the wrong sizes and wooo- what a mess!

Some of the ingredients might be hard to find in the grocery store, but most smaller stores are willing to order them for you. You can also find items like Fels-Naptha Laundry Bar Soap online at Amazon. I noticed they offered orange and lavender essential oils that you could use in the rinse water to make it smell nice, too.

Living On a Dime says it costs about 40 cents per gallon of detergent. Make sure you save your empty laundry soap containers before you make your first batch, you’ll need them to store all that homemade detergent. I’ve heard it works as good, if not better than the expensive store-bought varieties. Have fun!
