Free Build and Grow Clinics For Children

You may have noticed or even taken a class at one of Lowe’s How-To Clinics, but did you know that they have them for children, too? It’s lots of fun for the kids, and you may uncover a latent passion in them too! When my boys were little, we would keep a box of scrap building supplies with some kid-sized tools in the garage and my oldest would spend hours on a regular basis building items that defy description . Now, as a married adult, he just finished building a garage all by himself (he did have someone pour the concrete). He also fixes just about anything that goes wrong around our house, which you can imagine how nice that is!

A Great Father-Son Project

What better way for dad to have quality time with their sons than building something together? A class is fun, but you don’t need one to build something together, there are also lots of ideas complete with videos to be found online.

Lazy Susan – This is a super-simple project that can be done in an afternoon, and makes a great Christmas present for mom!

Chalkboard Wall – Another easy project, spray painting a section of the wall and then ‘framing’ it, makes a great addition to a homeschool area or playroom.

Garden Bench - A little more advanced, and may take longer, but the rewards will be worth it.

Gift Box For Him – Not to leave out the ladies, you know how to use a tool or two…this is cute. (DIY Network has several great gift idea project videos to check out!)

Looking For a Place To Connect Online?

I know, who has time? Between all there is to do in a day, you can’t fathom fitting one more thing into your day. Have you ever thought that you have so much to offer other moms? Or that maybe you could use an encouraging word at times?

Well, you are never too busy to TAKE (that means steal some time from something else) a little time to connect with other moms that are just like you. Unlike face to face situations, there are 2 main advantages to connecting online:

1-You can grab whatever time you might be able to squeeze out. It may be super early in the morning, late at night, or while the kids are napping. Also unlike face to face contact, you can end the time at will. Has it’s advantages….

2-There are so many groups online it’s a virtual friend smorgasboard. That may sound tacky, but there are so many different kinds of moms, that it would be impossible not to find a few that are very similar to you. Of course, similar isn’t always necessary, but face it, if you are a mom of 3 little children, it’s hard to relate with a mom whose children are grown, or a working mom if you aren’t.

One of the reasons that I’ve avoided many of the social networks is the time it takes to create my “page” and to learn my way around the site. I get lost on those really easily. Twittermoms is like Twitter. Easy to learn, easier to navigate. There’s not a ton of choices, except the number of groups available. Once you are in Twittermoms, you find a group that suits you, like Homeschooling Moms, or WAHMs, or Blogging Moms, or Natural moms, or…you get the picture.
